Chiropractor Victoria BC Finds Recommends Victoria Chiropractor

Recently, we had the chance to sit down with a friendly and talented Victoria Chiropractor, Dr. Merv Aramenko.  He has been working as a chiropractor in Victoria BC for over two decades.  And he loves his work as much as the day he first started.

Here’s a short video of a question I had for Dr. Aramenko:

You can reach him here to book a chiropractic appointment (to start healing better):

(250) 382-1000.

In case you’re wondering what he specializes in, it is A LOT!  A few of his specializations include full adjustment therapy, sports therapy, work injury therapy, family chiropractic, extremity adjusting, headaches/migraines, ankle and foot problems, golf and tennis elbow, to name a few.  I could really go on all day.  I can’t recommend this Chiropractor in Victoria BC more highly.

Feel free to shoot us any questions you might have for Dr. Aramenko.  If we get some good questions, then we’ll arrange to meet again.

Now, just one final note. Don’t worry, if you have never been to a chiropractor before, or you have been to one of the cold/unfriendly ones (I’m not going to name names).   The greatest thing about Dr. Aramenko is that he is friendly.  He loves to talk with you (not just at you), about your injury, back pain, arthritis, etc.  It’s obvious that he actually cares and loves his work.  And almost just as importantly, you can tell he’s honest.

That’s all for now from Chiropractor Victoria BC. We earnestly hope that this helps you out.  Be sure to write to us if you have any thoughts.

If you want to get in touch with Dr. Aramenko, here’s his info:

All the best from,

Chiropractor Victoria BC!

Hello! Welcome to Chiropractor Victoria BC.

I know Chiropractor Victoria BC may seem like an odd name for a website, but I chose it very intentionally.

You see, when a fellow member of the Victoria community needs professional chiropractic attention for treatment of whiplash, a desiccated disc, a bulging disc, sciatica, scoliosis, sinusitis, or a sports injury, there is a pretty good chance that they would type in “Chiropractor Victoria BC” … or maybe “Victoria BC Chiropractor” to help them find a reliable chiropractic practitioner.  LOL, and yes those three middle disorders were like ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs to me the first time I read them as well!

I wanted you to find my website, because unlike other sites that will pop up, when you type in “chiropractor victoria bc”, I do NOT own (or run) a chiropractic care clinic.

I’m just a regular guy who knows what it is like to get a bad deal, has had loved ones adversely affected by poor chiropractic (especially in their pocket books), and who has heard about some bad experiences with chiropractors and some funky stuff concerning the chiropractic vertebral subluxation complex (and aspects of it like vitalism and innate intelligence) in general.  Plus, I have some unfortunate residual effects from neck injuries, from my sports days as a teenager, and I want to get the good health care while helping you get it as well.  I don’t want anyone unqualified messing around with my back and my old neck injuries, and you probably don’t either.  Chiropractic can be well … a bit intimidating.

This motivated me to create Chiropractor Victoria BC so I can help you figure this stuff out and find a reputable chiropractor who will help you (and my family and friends) with spinal health problems.  You don’t want just anyone performing high-velocity, low-amplitude spinal manipulation (HVLA-SM) thrusts on your spine now do you?  OF COURSE NOT!  Chiropractic can be dangerous in the wrong hands and any manual therapy can have adverse effects in those same hands.

This site is a way of looking out for each other.  I’m sure you would do the same thing if our places were reversed, and you figured you could get my attention.

To be clear, the point of this blog is not to go out and bash anyone’s chiropractic programs.  At Chiropractor Victoria BC I am not going to tell you who not to go and see because they are so terrible, but I will recommend one or two high quality and respectable chiropractors who run accredited chiropractic programs.  That is to say that they should have approval from the chiropractic licensing boards like: the College of Chiropractors of British Columbia (CCBC), who have favourable standing with the Canadian Chiropractic Association (CCA), The BC Chiropractic Association (BCCA).  Ultimately I want to give you the heads up on a chiropractor that you can trust to take care of you and your muscle and back problems.  Also, it is important if they treat whiplash and work injuries (ICBC and Worksafe BC related injuries).  Afterall we all work so much that most of our back or neck injuries occur at work in the first place.

I also want to try to provide some information (from other sources) on back problems on how to take care of things like posture, back care, nutrition, exercise, stretching, basic massage and any of the simple spine care steps that you can do for yourself, for free.  I know that makes me sound like your mother … or grandmother even, but I am hoping it may help you out.  These tips will certainly not serve as an alternative to professional chiropractic care, like a spinal adjustment or other forms of manual manipulative therapy.  I wouldn’t want to take care of my own spinal manipulation, neck manipulation, or any type of manual therapy to be honest.  LOL, I would probably just end up hurting myself or breaking my own back.  You get the picture!

So, whether or not you have chronic lower back pain, a herniated disc, a disc tear, a prolapsed disc, shoulder pain, arthritis, a sore neck or anything in between then Chiropractor Victoria BC should help point you in the right direction.  That is what it is for!

Before I started looking for a qualified and science based chiropractor I could not have told you the difference between straight chiropractors and mixer chiropractors, between chiro and osteo (or osteopathy).  I didn’t even know about the existence of journals like Pubmed (short formed Pmid) or Manipulative Physiol Ther; and I certainly could not have told you the difference between a vertebrobasilar artery stroke and osteoporosis sciatica spinal or a tension type headache.  I had heard about carpal tunnel syndrome and knew that chiropractic could help my spine health … but that was about it!  And, no I am still not an expert, but I am learning about what chiropractic is good for and what separates the accredited chiropractic programs (the big kids) from the ones who espouse a pseudoscientific chiropractic philosophy.

If you don’t know about any of this stuff right now, have no fear.  I still don’t how much I do (lol).  Nonetheless, I will be diving into this stuff head first at Chiropractor Victoria BC, with the help of a quality chiropractor or two.  We will be looking at common causes to back problems like: strain on back muscles, continuous pressure or tension of a disc, lower back muscle tightness, or pinching of nerves.  Then we will consider ways that you can prevent back problems, neck problems, and anything else spine related from developing.

We will take a look at how some aspects of daily life that allow you to look after your nervous system (and hopefully the whole neuromusculoskeletal system) ultimately maintaining your spinal health.  If your problem is serious then these exercises will never stand in for the services of a quality and professional chiropractor; however, we will cover exercises and stretching that allow you to take better care of your back and spine.  One word of caution, I will simply be sharing quality information that I have found all over the Internet.  I am not a chiropractor or an expert.  That is why we are looking for one after all, lol!

Next, have you ever wondered about how reliable and honest chiropractic treatment is? Well, I have at least, and I know a lot of other people who have wondered what research supports the chiropractic profession. Afterall, do you know whether chiropractic manipulation is science based and what about the chiropractic subluxation complex? At Chiropractor Victoria BC we will consider what is often thought to be the dubious history of Chiropractic, including D.D. Palmer and some unsubstantial claims, and explore how it has developed into a systematic evidence based medicine, including aspects of applied kinesiology rather than a form of fringe alternative medicine.  It is carving out its place in mainstream medicine.  You can take a deep breath now :P

That will be exciting for those of you out there who love learning like I do; however, at the end of the day, the most important, and this is easily the most important, purpose of Chiropractor Victoria BC, is to help you find a professional chiropractor in Victoria who is honest and knows what he or she IS DOING!  This is your back after all!  And, it is important to find the right chiro for the job.  Let’s not put your back in the hands of just anybody!  And, let’s no go getting ripped off now shall we.  My mother in law, for example, went to a chiropractor for years, who told her that chiropractic care could treat her fibromyalgia.  But does this have a clinical precident?  It certainly didn’t work for her!

The last thing you need is to have some wannabe medical practitioner who appears to be a decent Canadian chiropractor, but in reality is not fully invested in the work and more importantly your health, who ends up messing up your back or neck OR telling you that you need constant spinal adjustments and other manual treatments when you actually do NOT.  I am sure you are getting the picture for why I made Chiropractor Victoria BC.

Also, I have seen prices all over the board from different chiropractors.  You are not a gadrillionaire!  Do you know how much a good chiropractor should cost?  Are you willing to pay for a bad one?  Hey, don’t worry if you don’t.  I didn’t when I first started looking either.  And, when was the last time you had to pay someone for chiropractic manipulation?  Also, are they treating you for something that physical therapists could take care of?  Let’s just make 100% sure that no one gets to rip you off.  You want access to affordable, cost effective, and accredited chiropractic, and so you should have it.  In the end I want to help you (and myself) to avoid chiropractors who have not gone through the proper licensing boards, who practice wonky medicine, or who will tell you that chiropractic is the cure for everything from an ear infection to pregnancy to radiation poisoning.  Let’s just do it right the first time.

Again, welcome to Chiropractor Victoria BC!  Take a look around, and learn about your spine, and hopefully how to take care of it.

Complementary Forms of Medicine to Chiropractic

Today we will spend a few moments thinking about some of the types of medicine that are complementary to chiropractic.  Chiropractic is only one form of alternative medicine.  I wonder if chiropractors feel that it is truly “alternative”.  Perhaps that is simply the vernacular at this point rather than an indication of being inferior.  Anyway, that is a different matter.  Let’s take a look at a few different but complementary forms of medicine.

1. Just about any chiropractor will tell you that massage therapy is VERY complementary to chiropractic.  A lot of them have massage therapists on staff or in their clinics!  This is not terribly surprising because massage is a basic form of therapy that most chiropractors employ to some extent anyway.

Massage therapists work with the muscles in the body to help the body heal itself.  This works by conditioning muscles in new ways.  Be forewarned that it is not as relaxing as you might imagine, at least not every time.

2. Osteopathy is VERY similar to chiropractic in that it is about body health and wellbeing of the musculoskeletal system.  The ultimate aim of osteopathy is to have a positive influence on the body’s circulatory, lymphatic, and nervous systems.  It is a holistic approach to healing that does not focus on strictly one part of the body.  Therefore delivering medicine for a problem is not the focus.  Surgery again is not really the focus of osteopathy.  It is similar to chiropractic in this way.

What separates osteopathy from chiropractic and all other forms of medicine is that osteopathy focuses on the proper functioning of all parts of the body.  Chriopractic focuses primarily on the spine and the neuromuscular skeletal system.  Like chiropractic however, there is still the requirement for five extra years of university to quality to become an osteopath.

3. Acupuncture is one of those forms of medicine that is not widely understood.  In this it has some similarities to chiropractic.  What makes acupuncture extremely interesting is that it works to stimulate the movement of your blood to create healing.  I personally know an acupuncturist who uses her techniques for facial rejuvenation.

Overall, though, acupunture is a medicine that is used to condition the body for all different types of things.  I have heard of some chiropractors who use it in conjunction with their work.  Overall, it is another form of alternative medicine, an ancient chinese medicine and art.  I haven’t tried it, but I am intersted in doing so.

Chiropractic For Back Pain

By Danielle Renee Foster

Introduction to Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic is a continuously growing practice of non-invasive procedures used to alleviate pain and headaches. It is a healthcare approach focusing on the relationship between the body’s structure, specifically the spine, and the body’s functions. Practitioners may use a variety of approaches, but primarily they perform adjustments to the spine with the goal of correcting alignment problems and encouraging the body’s natural ability to heal itself. Misalignments in the spine can interfere with the flow of energy needed to support health.

The term chiropractic itself comes from the Greek words cheir (hand) and praxis (action) to describe treatment done by hand or hands-on treatment. Today, chiropractic in the United States is considered to be a Complimentary and Alternative Medicine (CAM). Some chiropractic procedures can even be traced back to ancient times. Chiropractic is based on three key concepts:

  • The body has an ability to heal itself
  • The body’s structure, especially the spine, and the body’s functions are closely intertwined and this relationship affects overall health
  • Treatment aims to rectify this relationship between structure and function enabling the body to do what it does naturally, heal itself

According to a national survey from 2007, about 8 percent of American adults and 3 percent of adolescents or children had received chiropractic manipulation in the past 12 months. Those figures are probably higher today.

Why Chiropractic?

Many people seek chiropractic care in lieu of surgery, or simply because they have pain which may be brought on by stress or physical injury. This may be chronic low-back pain, neck pain, headaches or other pain related health conditions such as fibromyalgia. Although chiropractic is not a treatment for any one disease or condition, if there is a misalignment, chiropractic may help a body’s healing ability. Because chiropractic is a natural, non-surgical and non-invasive treatment it is wise to consider chiropractic for any of these pain related issues and definitely before undergoing any surgery for such problems.

If surgery is clinically indicated, chiropractic is also often utilized even after surgery to assist the body in its natural healing process.

Common Chiropractic Misconceptions

Although chiropractic has been around since the late 19th century, there are still various misconceptions about chiropractic treatment. Even though there are over 60,000 chiropractors practicing in the US today, and colleges all over the country offer chiropractic certification, we still see some common misconceptions when the term chiropractic is mentioned. If we can clarify or understand some of these misconceptions it may assist individuals to feel more comfortable about chiropractic care. Here are some of these misconceptions and an explanation of the facts.

  • Chiropractors can only treat back problems: While chiropractors are known for treating spine problems and back pain, chiropractic treatment itself is more of a holistic approach focused on correcting spinal problems which in turn helps all of the body to operate at its optimal functionality. Chiropractic not only helps alleviate back pain, but may also help to cure a child’s ear infection, a person’s headaches, lower blood pressure, help with the pain of arthritis, and many other ailments.
  • Chiropractors can prescribe medicine and perform surgery: While some chiropractors may provide heat/cold therapy, offer additional types of physical therapy and even oversee herbal therapy, they do not prescribe drugs nor do they perform surgery. Chiropractic itself is based on the idea that the body is able to heal itself and the chiropractor is helping the body to realize its innate ability to do so.
  • Chiropractors are not real doctors:Chiropractors are indeed certified doctors, schooled in the specific field of medicine called chiropractics. They must pass national board exams and licensing tests like all certified doctors before they can practice.
  • Once you go to a chiropractor you have to go for the rest of your life: A lot of people confuse maintenance appointments with a never-ending series of visits to the chiropractor. However, like regular exercise and good nutrition many chiropractic patients choose to get checked for misalignments regularly as a healthy way of life and to maintain the body’s optimal health and performance. A treatment plan will be discussed with the patient and it is always the patient’s choice whether or not they are benefiting from repeat visits.
  • I have had surgery on my spine so I am afraid to use chiropractic: Many chiropractic patients have had surgeries, or are in wheel chairs or even have steel rods in their backs. They still enjoy the benefits of chiropractic care. Each patient is different as is their situation and treatment plans are based on the needs of the individual.
  • Someone said I have a pinched nerve: Actually a pinched nerve is really a bone on a nerve and it is a rare occurrence, happening only to about 15% of the population. Most likely you have an irritated nerve or a facilitative lesion. Chiropractic may help this condition.

Chiropractic for Children?

You may not realize how important it is to have children checked for subluxation or misalignment of the vertebra. Subluxations do occur in children and often have little or no symptoms at this early stage. The birth process alone is a very traumatic experience for a child’s body and can certainly cause enough pressure for a subluxation to occur. I am sure you’ve heard of deliveries resulting in broken collar bones and breech deliveries, etc.

Subluxations can also occur when the child is learning to walk and also when they are older and playing sports and games. What is important to note is that children have certain windows of development that are often only open for a short period of time. This is predicated by the neural system which is the first system formed in a child’s development. If the neural system is being affected by subluxation your child’s potential is being limited. Chiropractic moms have claimed that their children are more expressive, don’t get sick as often and have better concentration than those who do not benefit from chiropractic treatment.

Some Famous People Who Enjoy Chiropractic Benefits

Famous athletes and movies stars are continuously enjoying the holistic benefits of chiropractic treatment. Here are just a few.

  • Mark Victor Hansen
  • Tony Robbins
  • Tiger Woods
  • Dan O’Brien
  • Lance Armstrong
  • Arnold Schwarzenegger
  • Sylvester Stallone
  • Jon Bon Jovi

So don’t give up on a natural chance to help your body heal itself. Check into chiropractic. You never know until you try.

Chiropractor Victoria BC FAQ – Part 1

At Chiropractor Victoria BC we are constantly striving to give you relevant information on chiropractic (in Victoria BC and elsewhere).  Today we are starting an FAQ section that will help you better understand chiropractic, and better make a decision about its place in your life.

Welcome to Chiropractor Victoria BC’s FAQ Part 1

1. Do I have to see a doctor before I go to see a chiropractor?

The quick answer is no.  You don’t! Doctors of Chiropractic or DCs are primary health care professionals (providers).  They are the first line of defense in alternative medicine.  That is not to say that they are the only first line of defense.  Acupuncturists, massage therapists, and other forms of alternative medicine have their place.

You can go to a Victoria BC chiropractor as soon as you feel it is necessary.

2. Do chiropractors have to have licenses?

Well, yeah they do have to have a license to practice chiropractic.  This is true in every state and every province as well.  So, you can rest assured that your chiropractor is certified and a health care professional.

3. What is the scientific basis for chiropractic?

To be upfront, I have asked my chiropractor to give me some referrences about prominent chiropractic/scientific studies.  He hasn’t given them to me yet, but I’m sure he will.  At the end of the day, I believe they are there.  The bottom line is that the spine and the rest of the nervous system work in tandem.  If you don’t think that these parts of your body are important, then don’t worry about getting chiropractic.  Chiropractors are the ones who are trained to take care of this part of your body.

Chiropractor Victoria BC obviously recommends that you do get chiropractic care; however, we are not medical professionals.  We are just fellow Victorians looking out for one another.

And one more Chiropractor Victoria BC FAQ!

4. Is chiropractic care expensive?

The short answer is no.  Although this is relative to your financial situation, it is a lot more affordable than we generally think.  Most chiro clinics charge about $50 per visit, from what we’ve gathered.  Of course always consult with them before hand.  And some clinics and Victoria chiropractors offer their services on a sliding scale!

If you liked this chiropractic FAQ then you may want to also check out our article on finding a great chiropractor, and the standup Victoria BC chiropractor that we’ve found.

We hope that these frequently asked questions help you make a decision about your health.  Whether you decide to get chiropractic care or not we want you to live a healthy and fulfilled life.

Best Chiropractic – Victoria BC

Thinking about the best practitioners of Chiropractic – Victoria BC

What does it take for someone to be a quality or even the best practitioner of chiropractic in Victoria BC? The quality of a chiropractor or any professional comes from a combination of things.  The two most important being expertise and friendliness.

At the end of the day these qualities apply to all business owners/professions and not just chiropractic.  You want your chiropractor, plumber, physician, dentist, lawyer, etc. to be an expert in their field.  If they don’t know a lot about what they are doing, then why would you want to work with them?  They may very well mess up.  No matter what the job, that’s obviously a HUGE negative!  So you want your chiropractor to be an expert.  I’ve actually heard of some people getting serious damage from poorly performed chiropractic.

With that said, there are chiropractors who do a great job.  Plus there is chiropractic science to back up that claim.  At the end of the day, a lot of people continue getting chiropractic in Victoria BC and elsewhere.  That’s because they know/feel that it works.

As for friendliness/likeability.  This is deeply important for a great chiropractor.  When you think about it, he or she is going to be working with you fairly intimately.  Hence, why you will want to go with a friendly chiropractor.  It’s just a simple fact that none of us wants to work … or even interact with people who are unfriendly.  It makes our lives worse.  Chiropractic then can be viewed somewhat holisitcally if your DC is a good person.  They can enrich your lives by helping you feel looked after.

Keep Your Eyes Peeled for BAD Chiropractic – Victoria BC

Here are some more things to look out for if you have been to a chiropractor.  Feel free to check out that link, if you are interested.  The most important point seems to be that you should NOT hurt after you leave your chiropractor.

We hope this has helped you think about chiropractic. Victoria BC is a great city for chiropractic care, but like anywhere else chiropractic in Victoria BC can be unreliable.  Just be sure to go with a trusted chiropractor.  As always feel free to contact us at Chiropractor Victoria  We’ll see if we can help you out.  Also, leave a comment if you have something important to say.

All the best from,
